Michael,
I sold my 940 a number of years ago, primarily because I had
purchased an 850, but even back then parts were becoming
problematic. The 940 was my first brand new transceiver, and I've
not had a brand new one since. Logged an awful lot of contacts with
the transceiver but look around, there are a lot of newer units which
work well, and perhaps better than the old Kenwood. I'm afraid that
the 850 may become difficult to repair soon; I also have an Icom
746PRO which I am very fond of. I had a TS2000 but didn't use it
enough to remember all its functionality, but it too is an accessible
transceiver. However, I personally prefer the receiver in the
PRO. And although not as accessible the Icom is a great transceiver.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
