Rick,

Have you compared what you hear with the vertical with what you would hear 
with a dipole?  Also, you may find that your vertical works well when the 
skip is long, and not so well when the band is more local.  Maybe your 
vertical works better than mine ever did.  I just know that mine never 
worked very well on 75 compared to dipoles I have had.
