I have the MFJ mic, and the transmit audio is noticeably tinny.

I also have a Premier ear-bud/mic combination. The audio from that mic
sounds okay, but is significantly lower in volume than the built in mic. The
Premier mic is not one of those bone mics, it has a separate tiny mic which
includes a ptt switch. It's about the size of a miniature ice cube.
