when I remotely control my radio, I do use Skype, but you can use IP sound 
if you want and I know someone who somehow, uses ventrillo so you don't have 
to stick with Skype if you don't want to but it is what I use. I find it the 
easiest to configure for that. I have an account for just that, no one else 
is added or ever will be, and I have it set to auto answer and my main skype 
account, I chat with, is the only one that can call that one.
