Try going into your system tray and see if the volume is there. If it is,
press enter and open volume and then arrow up and down to adjust volume.

Are you sure that rocker is supposed to control the volume? usually it's the

fn key with arrow keys, page up and down keys, or something like that. I 
have an old dell laptop in the sun room I use for field day and ham radio 
displays here and there, I'm not sure how to control the volume on that but 
I think it's FN plus arrow keys though that's an old windows 2000 machine. 
If it was sitting in front of me now I'm sure I could do it but I haven't 
run that in a while, I probably should go out there and fire it up one of 
these days, it hasn't been out since last field day.
