Sheriff proclaims Feb. 28 'Jr. Lolley Day'
Sheriff Donny Conyers proclaimed Feb. 28, 2011 as Jr. Lolley Day in honor of
Major Jr. Lolley,
who completed 32 years of service with the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.
In addition to the current office staff and employees from the courthouse
who attended the
luncheon hosted by Sheriff Conyers, many of those who had previously worked
with Major Lolley
also shared in Monday's celebration. These included H.C. Duggar, Cooney
Williams, former
Sheriff Harrell W. Revell, Betty Brantley and Larry Strickland. Other
attendees included County
Judge Ken Hosford, Court Clerk Robert Hill, Assistant States Attorney
Richard Combs and Circuit
Judge Jonathan Sjostrem.
In remarks at the beginning of the luncheon, Sheriff Conyers paid tribute to
Lolley and his work
ethic by saying, "Some might see his blindness as a handicap, but in this
department, Jr. Lolley
does not have a handicap." Lolley is well known and respected for his great
ability to
remember names, phone numbers and other features of people around him.
Some deputies thanked him for watching out for them when they are on the
road making traffic
stops. His follow-ups show his concern for the welfare of the officer.
In his remarks, Lolley paid a tribute to former Sheriff Harrell W. Revell
who, in Lolley's words,
"took a chance on me and gave me a job."
In his 32 years in the sheriff's office he has worked for former Sheriffs
Revell, J.L. Bailey, Bud
Burke and now, Sheriff Donny Conyers.
