Hi, all.

I am asking this question for my son, Dan, KC8DNO, who is a ham in
Kalamazoo, MI.

He has an Icom T90A HT, and wants to run it as a base unit with a 3-amp
12-volt regulated power supply.

In the manual, it says that you should not run the radio with a power source
any higher than 11.5 volts. I guess you're supposed to buy their cigaret
lighter adapter to take the voltage down to the 11.5 limit, if you want to
run it from an external power source.

However, the manual also says that if you run the radio with the battery
pack attached, you can then run it with an external power source ranging
anywhere from 11.5 to 16 volts. This would seem to be a solution, but
wouldn't running it like this for a long period of time as a base unit fry
or at least risk damaging the lythium battery pack?

Do any of you guys run your T90A on an external power source? If so, what
do you use, and how do you do it?

I'll forward any thoughts you provide onto Dan.

Thanks very much, and best 73 from Tom Behler: KB8TYJ, Big Rapids, MI
