HI Michael.  I used to just cup a dipole for the band in question, 33
feet on each leg for forty for example, and throw it up.  Tubes were
forgiving enough that the small amount of swr that the antena might have
was no big deal.  I was always told that anything under 2 to 1 was
exceptable.
