Anthony,

Phones have so many different options that it's almost impossible to come up
with a "standard" without first specifying what you want your phone to do.
I just bought a Panasonic KX-TS105W from J&R Music for $33 plus shipping.
Of the 21 corded phones on the J&R site, that one best fit my needs. I
wanted a phone that didn't have an answering machine, but did have a speaker
phone. I also wanted a "hold" button, and this phone has one. It also has
a volume control that controls both the handset and the speaker phone, which
seems like a good idea to me. Obviously, I don't care about the caller ID
display because I already have a talking caller ID, but I got the phone
anyway because it has other features I want. I eliminated "trim line"
phones because I don't like that design, and ruled out more expensive phones
which had features I knew I'd never use.

So far, I have no major complaints, but I just got the phone yesterday so
we'll see how it holds up over time.

Steve
