Hi Butch,
From what I've heard the RS Systems software is a problem.

I have a friend who uses a Yaesu FT817ND and she tells me two things.

First the program looks like a spreadsheet and second in her case Jaws keeps 
losing focus.

Also from what I know the older commander software that Simon Brown wrote 
for the 817 will work with the 897D.

The only thing is that the power readings will not be the same as the little 
Yaesu only puts out five watts and the 897D is a full powered rig.

I suspect that ham radio deluxe will work with this rig.
