HI John,
The only thing I can say is I've heard the FT817ND is really quirky about 
accepting data.

For instance if the radio is not switched off when you try to connect the 
Millenium Qsyer it will lock up.
I think John Hansen even made a comment about that in his manual to the 
Qsyer.
