David,

I'm not much of a CW guy, and I may be in over my head on this one.   I 
think the Winkey2 uses a serial connection (either mother boared  comm 
port, or USB to serial interface), while the Winkey USB  has a direct 
USB connection between pc and keyer.

I was incorrect when I said I don't have to worry about comm ports on 
this one.   The software installs a virtual comm port on the pc, similar 
to what the Kenwood  software does when connecting the TS-590 to the pc 
via USB.

  My reason for suggesting you look at device manager, is that in both 
cases ( 590 and Winkey USB) the virtual comm port
  drivers installed with port numbers that I had to change to make all 
work right.

Probably not much help, wasn't trying to muddy the waters for you.
