I know people the lightning has come in on the ground for, no, it's not 
pretty, those radios were useless after and not worth repairing. One was an 
up to then, bullet proof TS-520 as well, when the person tried it the next 
day it made a loud sound like bacon frying that wouldn't stop and I guess 
the smell was bad, it never did anything again after that and the other one 
that comes to mind was an IC-781 and that just  never worked again, nor did 
the stereo sitting next to it. the 781 actually had a burn mark on the case 
from it.
