The 949 is an antenna tuner.

To make it accessible, you will need an external swr meter that is 
accessible. This could be a meter such as the LDG PW1, or a meter adapted 
with an audible circuit which would decrease the pitch of a tone as the swr 
became lower.

Manuals in pdf format are on the mfj website. Other than the drawings, they 
usually read pretty well with Adobi.
