Hi,
Here in Kalamazoo, Michigan, our top 5000 watt A M station was owned
locally. It was sold recently to a group based in Wisconsin, and one of the
conditions of sale is that a majority of programming remain local and this
new group is supposed to be committed to local radio.
I have talked to the station manager and he is biting at the chance to go
digital if the bucks become available. He would like to run a classic rock
channel, or an info channel and who knows what else. He has been waiting
for the FCC to give the go ahead for 24 hour transmission and for more HD
receivers to be in use by consumers.
Like I said before, I hope that HD radio leads to better programming that is
free as I'm not sure that the satellite companies are going to be around
much longer if they keep losing money like they are doing!
