hello howard, no the dectalk express does not use a diode for a fuse, 
it has a real chip fuse a surface mounted fuse and from the fuse to 
ground there is a diode so if you plug in a reversed polaarity 
adapter the diode will conduct and blow the fuse.  there is a fuse in 
series with the battery power also.  so who you get to fix the unit 
needs to be able to do surface component work.  good luck, c u mike
