you might have got the squelch too high, the tones on for receive too, or, 
on the b band, you could have the volume for the B band too low, I found if 
you turn the volume all the way down, and hit moni, as I recall, it will 
bring the volume back to match the other band while you hold the moni button 
so you might check that too. My moni button no longer works most of the 
time, but when it does, I seem to recall that was the case when I played 
around with it.
