yes, that is very normal.
if conditions aren't really good, your not going to hear even wwv with the
stock antenna...
The HF receive is not great on the thf6a.
If you look at the SSB sensativity specs its pretty awful.
You'll have difficulty getting consistent reception even on the AM broadcast
band.
