Hello, everyone.

I have been debating when to write the following e-mail to the list, but
perhaps the time has now come.

As all of you know, I took a job last Summer out here at the National Center

For Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO. The main focus of the job was for
me to run and hopefully expand a long-standing program they had in place
called Weather And Society Integrated Studies.

I have absolutely loved this job, and, in a real sense, it has been a dream
come true for me, both personally and professionally.

However, to make a long story very short, NCAR has suffered a major cutback
in National Science Foundation funding, which has deeply affected both my
division and my program. In fact, things are now so bad that my supervisor
cannot fund my position beyond July 31 of this year.

Fortunately, for me, I do have my Michigan Sociology teaching job to go back

to in the Fall, although it is not at all what the wife and I would prefer.
Therefore, both my wife and I are currently pursuing other employment
options in the Denver/Boulder area, just to see if anything can emerge to
allow us to stay. We do not have much time to do this, though, so I am not
very optimistic that something new will turn up quickly enough.

In short, I guess what I'm telling everyone here is that there is a strong
likelyhood that we will be moving back to Michigan this Summer.

Due to this fact, the fact that I am still busy in my current job, and the
fact that the wife and I are searching for possible new Colorado jobs, my
life is going to become quite chaotic for a while. This means, of course,
that my involvements on the list, and in our Sunday afternoon Cross-Country
Blind Ops net, may be quite limited.

This is one reason why I recently have been emphasizing the need for
alternate net controls for our Sunday afternoon net. I simply am not going
to be able to guarantee my availability on a regular basis, at least for
the immediate future.

I hope all of this makes sense, and I truly appreciate everyone's
understanding and support through this difficult and challenging time.

You guys are a great group of people. There is not a day that goes by where

I don't appreciate this list and the friendships I have made here over the
past number of years.
