I started using Writelog about 7 years ago when I still had some usable
vision. Used it at first in a lot of RTTY contests as I could set up
backround color and font color and size to suit my needs.
Today I use it with Jaws and have had poor results in trying to getting
back on RTTY.
As far as a contest logger, it works with Jaws but it can be a handful.
Almost all menus read with jaws and the few that don't can be worked out
without too much trouble. The author relies a lot on making changes in the
ini file to do various things like allowing the program to use comm ports
beyond comm 4. Since it can be done fairly easy with a text editor and
jaws, it's not so bad.
Jaws will not read the fields as you move through them. However a few years
ago the author added audio help. This requires more of your own labor. You
have to record your own .wav files, which can be done within the program.
Add more entries in the .ini file to make it work. As you move through the
fields you will have your own voice speaking the field name for each field
that has the .wav file and proper line in the .ini file. You can also
put in a .wav file to announce a dupe if you put a dupe call in the call
field and try to move to the next field.
You can also add .wav files to tell you if there is an error in one of
the fields. Try to enter a qso where I forgot to put in the number he
gave me and I'll get a "error in number" audio message.
I find it difficuld to modify previous contacts. A lot of the editing
functions are mouse dependent and I find the need to modify the log while
the contest is on, so infrequent, I really don't have a handle on it. Any
time i've had to do it and got it done, it was hit or miss or dumb luck.
I won't bore you with more, but will be happy to answer any other
questions. Without the audio stuff mentioned above the program would be
useless. The large blinking cursor in the fields has jaws repeatedly saying
"underline, underline". I toggle insert-s to "none to shut it up. Suppose
it is possible to put a frame around the entry windo to make it stop, or
whatever the jaws trick is.
