We have one who checks in to the ARES net for one club I belong to, but
checks in and out. He wants more than anything to participate but can't
because if he's transmitting on 2 meters more than 15 seconds he sets off
the fire alarm. He's in a condo and everyone in the club good with that
stuff has offered to go in and take a look at it for him, the building
manager has let them, what the heck it's free maintenance, but they all come
out after looking at it saying they've never seen anything like it and it
will need a complete rip out and reinstall and the building manager is not
up for that though it's actually doubtful it would do it's job if a fire
ever started. Anyway, I don't know how many are in a boat like that, going
out side doesn't work he'd have to go mobile down the street and being in a
wheel chair, it's not worth all the trouble. I was doing that for a little
while because I needed to go out on the porch to check in to some nets on a
hand held but now I have an antenna up for 2 meters at least so if I want to
get on there and a couple other nets I can with out freezing. I used to keep
it short on the cold nights.
