Tom,

Your speakers are probably picking up RF through the air, but I seriously 
doubt that they're contributing to your RF issues except that they annoy 
you.  Does the monitor have some sort of On-Off/Volume control?  If it does, 
it may also need to get power from somewhere to run an audio amplifier 
inside the monitor.  It's also possible that your sound card can only drive 
amplified speakers, and the speakers in your monitor may be nothing more 
than plain old speakers, which means that they're probably the wrong 
impedance for your sound card.  All of this is speculation, though, since I 
haven't seen your monitor or your speakers or your sound card.
