Hi Jim!

Sorry, but it is governed by the list setup, not the individual, as far as I
know.

One of the unique things about this list, like those bothersome equals signs
that happen every time anyone posts from an Apple device.

73,
Dave

Why do some of you have email replies going to your individual email
addresses? I meant to send this to the list.

If you listen on the bands around 7.050 and 14.050 and above you'll
encounter a surprising number of SKCC ops. The standard exchange between
SKCC ops is RST, State/province, name, and SKCC number. The SKCC number
takes the form nnn(l), where nnn is the SKCC number, and the optional l is a
letter, either C, T, or S. Not everyone has a letter designation. The
letters signify the level which the member has achieved, C for Centurion, T
for Tribune, and S for Senator. You achieve a level by working some number
of other SKCC members.

Some hams decry this number chasing, but it has increased CW activity on the
bands as far as I can tell, and as a CW op, I think that's a good thing.
There's a lot of good old rag chewing that goes on between SKCC members as
well. Every month, starting on the Saturday following the 6th of the month,
is the weekend sprintathon, which is a contest with different bonus point
rules for each month. Also, on the 4th Wednesday, GMT, (Tuesday evening in
the U.S.) there is a two-hour sprint. You might also hear folks on the
first of each month calling cq SKN. The club wants to extend Straight Key
Night all year long.

In January, a special callsign, K3Y, can be heard. There is one K3Y
operating per region, (i.e.) K3Y/5, for as many periods as they can get
operators. I know that Bob, K8MXC from this list, has participated in this
activity. As far as I know, Bob and myself are the only SKCC members on
this list.

Hi Jim!

That's really all the side swyper is anyway. You think using it should be
easy, but trying it teaches you how wrong you can be. Hi hi.

If you're like me, you probably don't use the knob on the bug, but I'm not
suggesting anyone should be like me.

Thanks for mention the SKCC. I hadn't heard of it before, so Googled it and
was quite surprised. I'm not sure how big Fists is, but SKCC really
surprised me with their claim of membership. I liked the look of their
monthly brag contest.

I was disappointed when a fellow said they didn't think there was much
interest in CW among Handiham members. The QNS for this week's BCWN may
prove the claim somewhat valid. But when I looked at the SKCC page, I was
inspired to investigate it more.

Again, this is a great list!

73,
Dave

The Straight Key Century Club had a contest a few months ago where you got
bonus points for using a side swiper, or kootie key as it's called. So I
hooked both sides of my paddle together, and attempted it. It takes some
practice, but I think I could get used to it, but it felt good to go back to
the bug after that contest, hi.

Dave,
Nope, you don't quite make the CW nut catagory, no hand key and owning a CW
keyboard should be illegal! <GRIN> Kidding of course.
Ever tried sending with a "side swiper?"
