Your PC May Have Been Uploading Windows 10 to Others without You Knowing It



Windows 10 upgraders may not be aware of a new addition to Windows that has the features of a torrent client. It's called Windows Update Delivery Optimization (WUDO).

WUDO is a peer-to-peer delivery system that allows Microsoft to upload the Windows 10 bits stored on your system to PCs around the world. It is an ingenious way to spread the load of distributing Windows updates and also apps. Unfortunately, it is enabled by default on most home systems and not everybody is happy about that. If you are concerned about using your upload bandwidth or just leery about connecting to a bunch of unknown computers, here is how to disable WUDO.

1.  Open the Start Menu

2.  Click or tap "Settings"

3.  Select "Update & security"

4.  In the left-side pane, select "Windows Update"

5.  In the right-side pane, select "Advanced options"

6.  In the new right-side pane that opens, select "Choose how updates are delivered"

7.  Use the slider (highlighted in yellow in the graphic) to turn WUDO off.
