Walt,
To read the s-meter, do the following:

Press the menu key.
Rotate the multi-channel knob to Menu 51.
Press the right arrow to access menu 51A.
Press the up-arrow button repeatedly until you hear 64.
Press the Menu button.

Now, when you press the PF key, it will read S-meter.  To read the
frequency, press Enter (the key to the right of the zero on the telephone
keypad) twice.

I also appreciate it but I still can't get it to read the S-meter.  Maybe
