I do not own an Ameritron but from what I can tell you may run a bit more of
a risk but you do get a lot for your money.  It would be nice if they ran
them for a while, I have heard most components that go out do it in the
first few hours of use.  good luck Ron and when you get it you will find you

That's a big disappointment for sure!
   For the most part, MFJ products are not that bad as long as you get
one that was assembled well. From what I've seen, their biggest downfall
is the lack of final inspection and overall quality control. I suppose
they feel it's cheaper to deal with the few returns than pay for the
time it takes to inspect and test every piece they produce. I would hope
they might do a more thorough job with their higher dollar items though.
   On the other hand, Elecraft does a 24 hour burn in and diagnostic
test on all their assembled radios.

I am totally stunned! My newest TS-590s was defective coming right out of
the box, and I had to ship it to the Kenwood service center to be repaired
under its warranty, and now, my new ALS-1306 blew up within a couple of
hours of getting it connected up and operational. Whatever protective
circuits it has in it certainly didn't protect it from whatever caused the
final to die!



Based upon my very limited recent experiences, I tend to conclude that the
gear just isn't being built as well as it used to be. I wonder just how much
cheap Chinese parts are going into these new rigs?
