it's very hard to get 1 of those remote mobile tuners to work with a home
installation, it can be done but it's not easy. Reason being, most of them
are meant to tune whip antennas and only have 2 lead, instead of a shield
going to the outer ring of a pl259 connector, it gets the grounding through
the mounting and that's where you'd need to have the counter poise, that or
at the radio but even then I'd think you'd need it at the tuner as well.
that's how those were made. I know the SGC ones are anyway, not sure on the
LDG but I think they're pretty close. I'm talk about the remote tuners
though and if he's running the tuner that far away from the radio I'd hope
that's what he's running. If not the problem speaks for itself. I have one
for my 706 in my go kit, it's not a remote tuner and it works perfect but
the remote tuners really need that ground, they're not meant to substitute a
ballem in a home installation and I can certainly see why that wouldn't
work.
