I would say you don't necessarily need low band but you can have allot of fun with it.  If you are not 
allowed to put up low band antennas then the VOIP modes are an exceptable substitute.

    Thanks for the links.,  And so John, I need HF?  I am thinking to study
for General this year, maybe that is my ticket.  We do have a club here but
I have not gotten to the point yet where I can sit with a member and pick
his brains.  I want to tdo that this year.

    What I need to do now is learn what I can as Technician.  I am still
somewhat overwhelmened.  I went on the air last night for the first time.
