Hi, I just ordered a new chip from Hro which will come Wednesday.
If that fixes the problem that will be what I hope, but if not,
then I will work with Kenwood to send the rig to them and figure
out what to do with the VGS1 chip, probably return it to HRO.

I would just go to HRO with the Radio and see if it is the Chip.
Maybe they can fix the problem with your radio.

could either get the y l to take me there with the rig and try
it, or get them to mail me one and pay for chipping. But if I
take the rig there and find out the new chip doesn't work then I
could have them send the rig to Kenwood, maybe. Anyway it's a
serious drag either way you slice it. No, I don't intend to
take
the one out of the 480 just to test my theory. One other idea
would be to find a local ham with the same TMV71A rig and
pursuade them to let me try it in their rig, but no, I would
still have to end up dealing with HRO one way or another. Well,

I wouldn't mess with the 480, especially if it works. It's
possible that
the chip is fine, and the problem is on the motherboard. I
think
you may
have to send the radio in to get to the bottom of this.

Hi Steve, could be a possibility about bent pens, but it has
worked fine until a few weeks ago when it first went out and I
fixed it with a reset. I took a conservative approach when I
first took the lid off again a couple days ago by just tapping
it
and wiggling it a little. That seemed to make it come back. I
hesitate spraying any kind of contact stuff in the socket. I
plan to call HRO Oakland to see if they have any voice chips
before making the trek over there. Of course I could take the
other chip out of my 480 but don't want to tempt fate by doing

I've never had any problems with any of my voice chips, but
with
the
exception of the one in my TS2000, I've always had sighted help
putting them
in.
The chip might be dead, but you might also have bent one or
more
pins when
you reinserted it. In any event, it sounds like time for your
friendly HRO
doctor to check it out.

Hello listers, I am writing regarding my recent intermittent
TMV-71A speech chip problems, it went out again yesterday. I
took off the top and tapped and wiggled the voice guide chip
whereupon it started talking again. However, today, it is dead
again. This time I turned off the rig and unplugged the chip
and
replaced it again. That didn't fix it. guess the only way to
check it out is to take it to my local HRO after finding out
they
have a voice chip in stock and trying a new one to see if that
remedies the problem or if it's in the rig itself. Has anyone
else had issues with the voice guide chip going out or being
