Thanks to both of you for the recommendations.  I'll try them when I get 
home tonight.  Steve, the radio is not beeping when I press PTT so it 
doesn't seem to be in an error state.  John, could the crossband or offset 
have been changed even though I have the frequency and offset in a stored 
memory?  It was so hard to set those in the first place.  I agree, the 
software would be nice.

Good point, John.  I completely forgot about cross-band.  I'll bet that's
the problem.  I've been bagged a few times by that one, and it can certainly
happen if you push buttons randomly.
