TK-290 is a VHF hand held and a very nice one. I have the TK-280 but have a 
couple friends with the TK-290 so I have used one and really like it. Some 
of the commercial software needs minor work arounds but the 280 and 
associated radios one doesn't, I haven't used the TK-290 software though am 
told it looks exactly the same and I wouldn't doubt it.
