Mike sure brings back some memories.  I use to use a cheapy transister
radio to tune my am rig.  Worked pretty well.  I had a swan signat 260 and
in the mobile you could easily tune it by listening to the wine of the
inverter.  You could also get close enough by just peaking the background
noise as the pie network stayed in line on receive.  Kiind of fun days..
