it will talk out of the box I believe but for direct mic frequency entry
you'll have to enable that in the menu. My friend sold his. I need to come
up with a backup radio over here but might just get another 271.

Hi, John! Looks like I'll get the TM-G707A. However, HRO has them
on back-order (at least the Salem store does), and I'll be out of
town at the end of this coming week. Will wait until the units are
in, then order one. How easy is it to get up and running with the
radio from out of the box? Do you have to perform a few keyboard
functions to get the radio talking? Thanks in advance.--Matt.

P.S. Aside from the Kenwood manuals online, is there another place
where I can get docs with us in mind?
