Hi;
I don't know how much cash you want to part with but there are lots of
choices. Although the receiver isn't as good as some, people have
successfully used versions of the ic706 which gives you hf uhf and vhf in
one box.
The other thought is that like cars, radios depreciate a lot as soon as the
box is opened. Some folks change radios just because its time for a change.
Fortunately I have had good luck with used stuff and never been burned.
There are some kenwood ts570 radios around used and particularly since it
was discontinued I suspect the price will be reasonable. The kenwood ts850
is also solid state, usable, and probably available used if you are patient.
As John also suggested the kenwood ts520 ts530 and ts830 are tube radios but
very usable. The nice thing about tubes is that they are much easier to
replace than solid state finals. Once you tune a radio a time or two its
like falling off a log. If you smell smoke you can guess something isn't
set right.
I don't know where you are located but the arrl web site is very screen
reader friendly and has a good sized classified section. qrz.com and e-bay
also have lots of stuff.
Ideally if you have someone locally who wants to part with the radio of your
dreams all the better. You then know where it came from.
