Hi David: 

I live on the east coast of the rock, about 900KM from where you came accross. 
I'm about 45 miles from North America's most eastly point. As for the remote station, yeah NL would be an excellent place but if I put up 1, I'd have to limit public transmit due to the fact that I don't think these radios are really meant for this sort of thing. 
I think this is why Remote Ham Radio charges for its service. They're probably gonna have to start replacing K-3s very soon as I don't think they're meant to be running 24/7. :) 
As it happens they don't have a station up here and I can't imagine the traffic on that equipment if they did. :) So we'll see what happens, I'm mostly interested in a remote for my own purposes but may grant a small amount of friend transmit. :) Probably limited to this list if at all.
