It has been a long time since I ran a 232.   I use to use commo.  If it is
saying what, I doubt if the baud rate uis wrong, or you wouldn't see
anything but garbage on the output.  Check stop bits, and also take a look
at cr plus linefeed settings.  Just been too long.
