Tom,
I always install the full version of Winamp and uncheck the options that I 
don't want.  Also, do you have any kind of key macro program running on your 
desktop?
One more thing that you might try is to close Jaws and then try Winamp again 
to see if for some strange reason, Jaws is catching the keystrokes on your 
desktop.
