It's kind of like an agc control like on the old Soni 105 machines, or a
cassette recorder.  The idea is to bring up the quiet parts of the voice to
the peak audio level.  So the quiet sounds get louder, but the louder
sounds stay the same.  To much and the audio gets compressed, to little,
and nothing changes.  I hope that discribes it okay.
