Typically, when OE compacts messages and has a problem, the .bak files are in
the same folder as the .dbx files; they don't go to the recycle bin.
To find the OE folder, you can look under Tools, Options, Maintenance tab for
the store folder button. Or, if you have the system set to display hidden
folders you can navigate to it using the path:
documents and settings\username \local\application data\identities\alpha
numeric string\microsoft\outlook express.

I know another person who does have files with the bak extension in her
recycle bind, but that must be a different setup that she has on her
computer.
