The tuner in the 950, and probably the 450 also, is limited to a 3:1 SWR.
Sometimes I have seen mine exceed that range, but there are many
combinations of antenna and frequency which won't work.  The manual for the
FT950 states that it will not tune up a G5RV on some frequencies.
