I'm 1, if I hear you, I'll talk to you. I like to look for people talking
about a topic I know something about and then I usually have no problem
breaking in though I know how it is some times. I like to listen a lot too
now and then.

I can tell when someone is a bit nervous and don't know how to conduct
themselves. I used to be that way too. It takes a lot to just break in on
someone and act like you belong there. Depending on the questions one might
ask, that determents usually whether you're new, or at the least, someone
that hasn't been real active. Usually people are helpful and patient to each
other whether they're new or old. My problem though is not always on 2
meters. The cb attitude sometimes follows me everywhere else. Tonight for
instants, all I wanted to do was try out the band on 75 meters since it was
half decent, and because I'm right in the noise, or don't meet the signal
strength in the group I broke in on, I was unimportant. Now myself I've
always talked to just about anyone that I could pull out. I guess not
everyone acts that way. I ended up finding another bunch that gave me a turn
and each other as well. In that kind of structure, I'll have a chance. So
I'm afraid the rude operators aren't just on 2 meters. By the way, every
frequency on vhf here is used as well. However not too many are on at all
times. For me anyways, at night I like working hf because there's noone to
talk to on two meters. My friends have all gone to bed.

Where do you come up with the "decline in number of 2 meter repeaters"?
Not here in Vegas, you can't find a clear channel, not only on two, but
most of 440 is taken up as well. I've heard very little of what I'd call
cb type operation here in Vegas, and when we do hear that from a new ham,
we take them under our wing and show them how it should be done. I do see
a decline in people willing to volunteer for ham activities. Most clubs
I'm in, it is the same few who are the "people who do things", but to some
extent, it has always been that way, whether you're discussing ham clubs
or church groups.
