That voltage control oscellator across the swr bridge still out plays a
meter.  We have compared tuning, and since the oscellator changes pitch
with 5 watts or less, I can beat a standard meter and equal the Bird.
Besides that, the feedback is instantanious.
I wish I still had my Globe Chief.  I never had more fun with any other
radio I owned.
That was due to the magic of being on the air, rather than the radio.
By the way slop bucket doesn't own the entire phone band yet.
We still have a bit of space, take a listen around 1885 or 3885 some time.
