I have both radios.  I areally don't find the dsp helps muuch on a lot of 
stuff.  One problem here is I have an s8 line noise.  If you don't want 
stuff above six, don't want sky command, packet and so forth. I'd suggest 
the 480.  They're both very fine radios.  I think the 480 even talks a bit 
better than the 2000.
One thing I don't like, and it is a small complaint, Kenwood changed the 
power cord on the 480.
