No, it is necessarily necessary to download their removal tool; unless:

A.  You want to remove all vestiges of Norton; and/or
B.  You can't remove Norton anti-virus through the usual add/remove programs 
process.

    I like NOD32.  Even tho its not free, I think it runs much better than
anything else.  To remove Norton, one must downlaod Norton's removal tools.
Dunno why they cant write clean uninstall code.
