Sami Kahn, professor at Rutgers University talks about her mentoring
project with girls with disabilities in the fields of science, engineering
and math. She is interviewed by Dr. Larry Scadden from the National
Science Foundation which sponsors this work. Mentoring is recognized as a
powerful tool to help all students grow and mature. This is especially
true where there are few role models for students to identify with.
Mentoring has been proven successful in programs with girls and in programs
with students who are disabled. Sami's program does both at once and
presents an exciting example of how role models can empower young people as
they mature.
