EASI Webcast: Providing E-texts for College Students
http://www.rit.edu/~easi

This is a presentation from a conference on technology and disabilities.
The presentation is:
Alternate Media Exchange Network:
A model for developing alternate media resources.
Sean Keegan
Gaeir Dietrich

All too frequently colleges have to rush to provide an alternate version of
a text for a student without knowing whether or not it has already been put
into alternate format by another campus. Sharing such e-texts seems simple
and logical, but there have been a myriad of roadblocks: interpretations of
copyright law, not trusting another alternate text producer, bureaucratic
hurdles and sometimes just plain stubbornness. The good news is that there
are many projects that are chipping away at the challenge and making progress.

Sean Keegan and Gaeir Dietrich talk about their experiences in creating a
system wide exchange program to deliver materials in alternative formats to
students in the California Community College system. California is one of
the states which has been a leader in state support for providing
electronic versions of texts for its college students. Rapid availability
of alternate texts is important for both on-campus and distance students.
