Tommy -- as I see it, you have taken all the necessary prudent steps in
troubleshooting this situation.  In my initial post, I indicated and
referenced a KB article that documents a design flaw  in Windows 98,
whatever that may mean in Microsoft speak.

The only other logical conclusion that one can come to or suggest is if you
have access to another machine with Windows 95 or another OS. Try hooking
it up and see if it works on either of them. If it does, it refutes M$
argument that it is a Windows 98 only problem. This is a driver problem and
Canon's unresponsiveness doesn't help either.
