  It depends a bit what you want to do with it.  If three PCs is the
whole network, and All your applications use WinSock, then NetBEUI is
"lightweight" and simple to configure.

  But if you want to run Internet apps/utilities, and/or connect to
the Internet, then you'll need TCP/IP.

  I recently had occasion to look at a bunch of wireless and/or
"home" networking products.  On the one hand, they generally promised
to be simpler to configure than TCP/IP.
  But on the downside, they all cost significantly more than Ethernet
(and offered less performance), and it was never very clear
whether/how you could mix them with any other network gear.
"Expensive proprietary toys" sez I.
