What do you mean by "It's not a paleo thing"? Do you mean that
it's not caused by the paleo diet? I'd be inclined to agree.
The simplest explanation appears to be that you got the same
stomach virus that afflicted your neighbor. Perhaps you should
revise your last sentence.
My own experience of about 2.5 years paleo has been that I am
less susceptible to seasonal colds and things of that sort. When
I have started to feel a cold coming, it generally passes quickly
with only a minimal set of symptoms. On the other hand, I have
been ill with the flu twice during this period of time. Both
times the illness was devastating, with raging fevers, extreme
weakness, and so on. Both times I missed about a week of work.
If I were a HG living in the wild, I guess one of these episodes
would have killed me.
