Westly,
A DVD-ROM drive should work fine in that Aptiva model,
IIRC, IBM had a DVD drive in the model one up from that
one, and it worked perfectly.
I don't know what this person was talking about; DVD
movies can not damage your monitor. You should be
more concerned about getting the software or
hardware to play the movies then damaging the monitor!
